Voices UnEchoed: Young Children’s Voices in a Changing Climate
Climate change has brought myriad challenges to the Himalayan nation of Nepal, including severe flooding, landslides, and more, causing long-lasting impacts on whole villages, families, and children. Recovery from such disasters in Nepal has taken time and has left children with physical, emotional, and psychological scars.
The project, implemented by ChildArise, the Nepal Early Childhood Association, and Mystic Canvas, aimed to empower young children and families in the Helambu province of Sindhupalchok district who were severely affected by floods to be storytellers and share the impacts of the flooding on their lives. The purpose of the stories was to raise global awareness about children’s experiences in these types of contexts and to influence the Nepal government to do more to support villages around the country with a high risk of climate-induced disasters. The result of the participatory approach was a short film called Voices UnEchoed, which has been shared globally, nationally, and locally.
